Why crackers belong to Karthigai Deepam
The lamps are the festival; crackers only add to them. A few sparklers and flower pots in front of the lit doorway are enough, and many families keep a part of their Deepavali order back for this night.
What to buy
Keep it small and bright. Sparklers, flower pots and a few ground chakkars suit a doorstep lined with lamps. If you are ordering for Deepavali anyway, add these to the same order and store them sealed until Karthigai.
